Welcome to OpenBuild Dev Digest #28!
This week, we’re diving into the latest developments from the GRIND HACKATHON, where a $70,000 prize pool and access to some of the most influential Web3 acceleration programs are up for grabs. As the hackathon heats up, we also highlight some critical industry insights, including a deep dive into strategic missteps in the DevRel field, the conversation continues with a forward-looking piece on bridging technology by Joshua from Aori, outlining the potential for a streamlined, intent-based bridging process.
In addition, we’re keeping an eye on upcoming opportunities in the Web3 space. New grants and bounties from Pinto, Ion Protocol, and Nucleus offer up to $500,000 in rewards for security research, helping to keep the blockchain ecosystem safe and secure. Plus, don’t miss our OpenBuild x Mina and OpenBuild x SmartDeer Challenge Courses, which are still open for registration!

Let’s dive in!

✍️ On The Crypto DevRel Trap 👉Read(EN)
DevRel isn’t the problem—it’s more so strategic missteps. The belief that the existence of Developer Relations (DevRel) positions is holding back mainstream adoption is inherently flawed and fails to address the core issue. While I agree the focus shouldn’t be blindly attracting more developers at the expense of users, attributing blame for the lack of users on DevRel is shortsighted.
✍️ Tinker Tailor Soldier… Solver? 👉Read(EN)
Joshua from Aori recently highlighted the importance of “intentful infrastructure” in bridging, sparking valuable discussions on the future of UX in this space. Fast and efficient bridging is critical, as evidenced by the significant activity, such as billions being bridged to platforms like Hyperliquid. Short-term solutions often involve cumbersome steps like swapping and bridging separately, but the future points to a more streamlined process. Intent-based systems could transform bridging into intent-based swapping, where users simply sign a message and receive tokens on the destination chain within the same block. This approach shifts the complexity of rebalancing and routing to solvers, ensuring a smoother and faster experience for users.
✍️ What I would love to see in a wallet👉Read(EN)
Vitalik recently released a piece on wallets, proposing how they could become both more secure and user-friendly. Similar to cross-chain intent infrastructure, the focus is shifting complexity away from users and into the hands of protocols, wallets, and standards. While this compromises some decentralization ideals, it’s pragmatic for onboarding new users.
